The final match of week 12 in the Premier League Darts is a massive match for the world champion Adrian Lewis who takes on Simon Whitlock in a match which will have a low of implications in the final places in the playoffs next month. These two met earlier in the competition when Lewis beat Whitlock 8-2 and a repeat of that would lift Lewis above Whitlock in the table while a win for Whitlock will as good as end Lewis’ playoff hopes.
Simon Whitlock had been in very good form until a couple of weeks ago. He beat Barneveld 8-5 in round 9 and played sublime darts in that match. To be fair he hasn’t done a lot wrong in his two defeats in the last two weeks. He’s come up against opponents in top notch form particularly Anderson last week and it’s a sign of how well he’s playing that Anderson could hit 11 180’s last week and still only beat him 8-6.
Adrian Lewis has lost his last 3 matches in the Premier League 8-3 to Raymond Barneveld, Phil Taylor and James Wade and he faces another test here. It’s fair to say the world champion has gone off his game in those matches as he’s only hit 5 180’s in the 3 matches when he’s usually hitting that many in one match.
I think Simon Whitlock’s extra confidence could prove significant here. He’s been scoring really well for the last few weeks and crucially he has hit key doubles when he’s needed to. Lewis hasn’t been at the races for 3 weeks and although his average was sky high for a while last week that was distorted by Taylor’s quality shutting him out of most legs. Whitlock has shown enough in the last few weeks to suggest to me he’s in the form to sneak into the top 4 and he’ll go a long way to doing that with a win here..
